About the Role
A Central London Local Authority is seeking a highly skilled Senior Strategic Communications Officer to join their Corporate Communications team. This is a pivotal interim role providing essential cover during a period of internal change. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing and delivering insight-led, high-impact campaigns that support the Council’s strategic priorities.
This is a fast-paced role requiring a confident and strategic thinker with an excellent understanding of campaign planning, stakeholder engagement, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of integrated communications campaigns to influence behaviour and shape public perception.
- Utilise customer insight and data to guide campaign planning and identify the most effective tools and channels.
- Define campaign goals, target audiences, core messages, and delivery strategies.
- Provide high-level communications advice to senior officers and Cabinet Members.
- Act as a strategic business partner to internal clients, offering tailored communications guidance.
- Work cross-functionally with media, digital, and design teams to ensure consistent messaging.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and apply insights to improve future activity.
- Horizon scan to anticipate reputational risks and emerging opportunities.
- Cultivate strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including residents’ groups, businesses, and community partners.
- Bring creativity and innovation to enhance community engagement and public trust.
About You
- Demonstrable experience delivering complex, high-profile public-facing campaigns.
- A strategic thinker with a strong grasp of behaviour change and audience segmentation.
- Skilled at interpreting both qualitative and quantitative data to inform and evaluate communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable navigating a political or public sector environment (desirable).
- A collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
