Mechanical Project Engineer

M&E Project Manager – East London – £370.92 per day (Umbrella)

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced M&E Project Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical engineering projects across a varied property portfolio.
This role requires a qualified Mechanical Engineer (Degree or above) with extensive experience in construction management or building services, capable of taking full ownership of M&E projects — from design and specification through to tendering, delivery, and completion.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting day-to-day maintenance operations, managing mechanical contractors, and providing expert engineering advice on complex repair and maintenance issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead on mechanical project delivery, from concept to completion.
• Prepare and oversee designs, specifications, tenders, and delivery programmes.
• Manage external contractors to ensure high-quality and compliant project outcomes.
• Provide technical advice and guidance on mechanical engineering issues and repairs.
• Support ongoing maintenance activities and ensure best practice in building services performance.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong background in construction management or building services engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems across a range of building types, including:
  Proven experience managing teams of engineers/surveyors delivering complex mechanical projects.
  • Heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
  • Lifts, mechanical shutters, and controls
  • Legionella control and compliance
• Track record of overseeing works such as commercial gas boiler installations, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
