Housing Enforcement Officer

Principal Housing Enforcement Officer - London - £50 per hour (Umbrella) 

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Principal Housing Enforcement Officer to lead complex housing enforcement investigations within the private rented sector.
You will manage high-profile enforcement cases, ensuring compliance with housing legislation, licensing requirements and property standards while providing expert advice to colleagues, senior management and partner organisations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading investigations into complex breaches of housing legislation and licensing conditions.
• Inspecting HMOs, licensed properties and privately rented homes to identify hazards and enforcement requirements.
• Preparing and serving statutory notices, improvement notices, prohibition orders, civil penalties and other enforcement actions.
• Ensuring enforcement decisions are robust, evidence-based and legally compliant.
• Providing specialist housing enforcement advice to managers, Members and partner agencies.
• Supporting the delivery of effective regulatory and enforcement services.

Essential requirements:

• Proven experience in Housing Enforcement within a UK Local Authority.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, HMO licensing and private sector housing enforcement.
• Experience conducting property inspections and managing complex enforcement cases.
